Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 design prepares for an orderly migration from MOM 2000. |
A large corporate using Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 for some time evaluated the move to Microsoft Operations Manager 2005. Their experience with MOM 2000 had been mixed. They had benefited from it's capabilities but had created custom rules and modified many standard management pack rules to accomplish their goals. MOM 2005 offered many advantages, including integration with Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS) and improved management packs. The dilemma was how to selectively preserve their custom rules while eliminating the unwanted changes and accomplish this without any interruption to monitoring. Pennic Consulting created a migration design to accomplish both objectives. Utilizing this design, the client is moving from MOM 2000 to MOM 2005 preserving their unique rules but eliminating the unwanted modifications. |
